Heddens is a dedicated leader for all

Letter to the editor

I am writing this letter to express why Lisa Heddens is the right person to serve on our Story County Board of Supervisors.

Having served for 16 years as one of your supervisors, I got to see her leadership qualities while she served multiple terms as District 46 Iowa State representative. She was highly respected across party lines for her collaborative efforts in passing legislation, especially for children, the elderly and the disabled.

While serving in the Legislature, she also was the executive director for NAMI Central Iowa, (National Alliance on Mental Illness) that advocates for people with mental illness.  Lisa recruited me to serve on the board of directors for NAMI. Here was a first-hand view of her leadership skills, including her community relationships, advocacy, and financial management.

When she left the state Legislature to fill a vacant county supervisor position, it was the best possible fit for Story County. This is where she can have a direct impact on managing county resources to benefit all Story County residents. Lisa is a good listener, visionary, collaborator and problem solver, with the ability to look at an issue from various viewpoints. During these challenging times, Lisa is a proven leader for our county’s needs. Please join me in electing Lisa Heddens as your Story County Supervisor.
