The Roland-Story basketball season began with the annual jamborees, hosted recently by the Norsemen girls and boys on consecutive Monday nights.
The girls began their schedule by hosting eight teams in Story City on Monday, Nov. 17. The Norse took on NE Hamilton in a two-quarter scrimmage to close out the evening’s competition. The Norsemen cruised to a 40-16 win in the 16 minute affair. Alexa Whipple had 10 points, followed by Alyssa Miller with nine, including two three pointers, and Samantha Janvrin tossed in eight points. Other teams competing in the jamboree included Gilbert, Colo-Nesco, South Hardin, Bondurant-Farrar, West Marshall and Nevada.
The Norse girls opened their 2014-15 regular season last Tuesday night (Nov. 25) against North Polk at Alleman (see story on this page).
The following Monday (Nov. 24) saw the R-S boys take to the hard wood by hosting their jamboree, invited five teams to their facilities here in Story City. AGWSR and CMB were scheduled to appear, but cancelled their planned trip. Joining the Norse were South Hardin, Colo-Nesco, Gilbert, South Hamilton and NE Hamilton.
The Norsemen boys took on South Hardin in the final match up of the night, falling to a strong Trojans outfit 36-31. The Norse opened their regular season on Monday, Dec. 1 at Iowa Falls-Alden and will look to improve on a 14-9 season last year.
