Norsemen girls finish third at Perry Relays

The R-S girls competed well at the Perry Relays on Thursday (April 14), turning in some personal bests along the way. The Norsemen finished third with 99 points, as Winterset and North Polk battling it out for the title. The Comets eventually fell by just two points, as Winterset won the crown 122-120. Rounding out the field were Greene County (86), Perry (77) and Clarke (76).

The Norse had four first place finishes, including two individual titles by Alexa Whipple in her specialties. Alexa won both the 100 meter hurdles and the 400 meter hurdles with times of :16.24 and 1:09.75. Her teammate Lynette Wuebker was second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:13.99; a personal best.

The other winning events for the Norsemen were the distance medley team, which won by nearly four seconds over Winterset, clocking in at 4:50.46, and the 4 x 400 relay, which finished at 4:25.94. Members of the distance medley squad included Jade Elliott, Lynette Wuebker, MaKayla Geise and Chelsey Tinken. The 4 x 400 team included Anne Wilgenbusch, Lynette Wuebker, Chelsey Tinken and Alexa Whipple.

In the runner up position was Anne Wilgenbusch in the 100 meter dash (:14.02) and the shuttle hurdle relay team (1:13.71). Members of the latter included Lynette Wuebker, Madeline Carlson, Natalie Tryon and Alexa Whipple.

Coming in third for the Norse was Taryn Johnston in the 400 (1:06.74). Finishing fourth were Anne Wilgenbusch in the 200 (:29.87), Emily Stewart in the high jump (4 ft. 8 in.), Kim Hendrian in the long jump (12 ft. 6 in.) and the 4 x 800 relay (12:10.70). Members of the 4 x 800 squad included Hailey Louw, Maggie Schnurr, Emma Auld and Leah Markwardt.

Anne Wilgenbusch managed a fifth place finish in the 400 (1:07.31), as did Jade Elliott and Rylie Goeders in the high jump (4 ft. 6 in.) and discus (84 ft. 5 1/2 in.), respectively.

The 4 x 100 (:59.07) and the 4 x 200 (2:04.27) also finished fifth. Members of the 4 x 100 included Pressly Parker, Makayla Geise, Abby Jennings and Taryn Johnston. The 4 x 200 was made up of Jade Elliott, Abby Jennings, Pressly Parker and MaKayla Geise.

And in the sixth position for the Norse: Taryn Johnston in the 100 (:14.39), Kaitlyn Strobl in the 3000 (14:08.05), MaKayla Geise in the high jump (4 ft. 6 in.), Amira Mehr in the shot put (30 ft. 7 1/2 in.) and the sprint medley (2:19.06). Members of the latter included Jade Elliott, Abby Jennings, Natalie Tryon and Gracie Nootz.
