Roland-Story girls’ track team places third at Carroll

The Norsemen girls’ track team placed third at the Carroll Relays held last Monday (April 11), in their first meet of the season, and according to Coach Natalie Whipple, “butterflies were apparent as well as the cold and wind”.

Senior Alexa Whipple has been very strong during practice, according to her coach, and “her hard work and dedication showed in all her running events,” said Coach Whipple. Alexa finished first in both the 100and 400 hurdles, with times of :16.17 and 1:11.48, respectively. She also participated in the shuttle hurdle and 4 x 400 relay events, which placed second and third, respectively.

Coach Whipple also praised a promising duo of freshmen sprinters - Taryn Johnston and Annie Wilgenbusch - who stepped up and helped the Noersemen score double points in some of the open events.

“Taryn and Anne are great competitors and will push each other in every meet,” stated Whipple.

Wilgenbusch took fourth in the 100 (:14.06), third in the 200 (:30.15)and fourth in the 400 (1:09.30). Taryn came in fifth in the 400 (1:09.36), sixth in the 200 (:30.78) and seventh in the 100 (:14.59).

Also placing fourth was Chelsey Tinken in the 800, posting a time of 2:47.81. Lynette Wuebker placed fourth as well in the 400 hurdles, turning in a time of 1:21.31.

Emily Stewart had a personal best in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4 ft. 10 in. to finish third.

Hannah Patton and Rylie Goeders finished fourth and fifth in the discus with tosses of 82 ft. 5 in. and 81 ft. 8 in., respectively. Rylie also finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 29 ft. 1 3/4 in.

Finishing second was the shuttle hurdle relay team of Lynette Wuebker, Madeline Carlson, Natalie Tryon and Alexa Whipple. They clocked in with a time of 1:16.47. Coming in third was the 4 x 400 relay team with a finish of 4:36.88. Members included Lynette Wuebker, Taryn Johnston, Chelsey Tinken and Alexa Whipple. Placing fourth was the 4 x 200 team of Jade Elliott, Abby Jennings, Pressly Parker and Lynette Wuebker, as they turned in a time of 2:04.59. And the 4 x 100 relay team came in fifth with a finish of :59.78. Members consisted of Natalie Tryon, MaKayla Geise, Abby Jennings and Anne Wilgenbusch.

The team standings saw host Carroll win the title with 133 1/2 points, followed by IKM-Manning (90 1/2), Roland-Story (82), Greene County (80), Maple Valley (75), Perry (50), Audubon (46) and Woodward-Granger (25).
