Roland-Story girls fall to GC in late innings
The Roland-Story girls’ losing streak reached five games as the Norse fell to Greene County 12-7 Thursday night (June 30) in Roland. The Norsemen couldn’t stay away from allowing their visitors the big inning. GC scored four runs in the third and never trailed, adding three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. They also added two insurance runs in the seventh. R-S scored their runs late, tallying five in the sixth after trailing 10-0. The home team added two in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little too late.
“I was really happy with the way the girls fought to the end of the game and put pressure on even when they were down,” said Coach Amber Doyle. “They looked confident in their at bats and after a long week of close ball games they continue to work to improve and stay positive.”
Both teams banged out eight hits. Hailey Louw led the Norse offense with a 3 for 4 performance at the plate, including two runs scored. Jenna Clark, Kelsey Polaski, Sydney Mathis, Juliann Clark and Jade Elliott had the other Norsemen hits. Jenna Clark’s double in the sixth drove in Elliott, who led off the inning with a single, and that started the Norse on their way to a productive five-run inning. Polaski also drove in a run in the seventh with a single to center.
