STORY CITY - Not much went right for the Roland-Story football team in its home opener versus Nevada Friday.

The Norsemen were overpowered by a 63-6 score in falling to 0-2 on the season.

“Right now our team needs leadership and coaching to continue fighting through adversity and I am confident that our staff and players will keep digging deeper,” Roland-Story head coach Matt Finn said. “We will continue to prepare, improve and believe. We just have to keep learning from miscues and mistakes while keeping everything in perspective.”

Nevada running back Caden Jones ran for four touchdowns in the first quarter. By halftime the Cubs had a 49-0 lead.

Roland-Story did manage to get on the board before the game ended with a big pass play. Luke Patton found Kale Lande on a 46-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

Finn wants his team to focus on that play and other positives and try and move the program forward one step at a time.

Carter Flattebo heads up field after receiving the ball during Roland-Story's 63-6 loss to Nevada Friday in Story City.

“We’re climbing a mountain and the grade is a little steeper than we initially anticipated,” Finn said. “So now we’ve got to equip ourselves with the proper mindset and toolbox for the steep climb that it is. If you look down, it’s easy to get distracted by all the what ifs and variables, so we’ve got to keep our eyes on the summit.”

Patton completed 2 of 11 passes for 48 yards with an interception. Zach Twedt ran for 29 yards and Caden Sporleder added 13 yards rushing.

Noah Bell had 5.5 tackles, Adam McIlrath five and Jackson Sterle 4.5 for Roland-Story on defense. Logan Schnurr added 3.5 and Lande three.

Up next for Roland-Story is a road trip to Forest City (0-2). The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
