Fourth-ranked R-S girls edge No. 6 Panorama at Klein Invite: Limas places eighth for Norse boys

Nathan Limas placed eighth individually for the Roland-Story boys at the Jim Klein Invitational cross country meet Oct. 8 in Jewell.

JEWELL - The Roland-Story girls scored an impressive victory over Panorama at the Jim Klein Invitational Oct. 8 at the Jewell Golf and Country Club.

The Norse girls, ranked fourth in Class 2A, defeated sixth-ranked Panorama by eight points for the team championship out of eight scored teams. Roland-Story scored 36 points after placing five runners in the top 15 and Panorama finished with 44 points after putting four runners in the top 15.

Reece Johnson, ranked eighth individually in 2A, led Roland-Story with a runner-up 5-kilometer time of 20 minutes, 46.98 seconds. Panorama’s Ella Waddle, ranked just ahead of Johnson at seventh in 2A, won the meet in 20:27.40.

The outstanding freshman class of Elizabeth Ihle, Makenna Carlson, Lauryn Kilstofte and Moriah Bates rounded out the scoring for the Norse. Ihle placed fourth in 21:20.64, Carlson seventh in 21:45.47, Kilstofte ninth in 21:47.37 and Bates 15th in 22:12.99.

Freshman Makenna Carlson (center) placed seventh to help No. 4 (Class 2A) Roland-Story edge No. 6 Panorama for first in the girls' race at the Jim Klein Invitational cross country meet Oct. 8 in Jewell.

Caden Thoreson placed 23rd in 23:18.30 and Jordyn Ramus 33rd in 24:29.81 to round out the varsity competition for the Norse girls.

The Roland-Story boys finished fifth out of nine scored teams with 135 points. Madrid, the top-ranked team in 1A, dominated the boys’ race with 20 points and East Marshall was second with a score of 85.

Nathan Limas kept up his strong run over the past week by placing in the top 10 to lead the Norsemen. Limas ran a 5k time of 17:53.16 to place eighth.

Zane Haglund finished 16th in 18:35.69, Jay Sanderson 32nd in 19:37.87 and Sam Skaar 41st in 19:56.61 as the other runners to finish under 20 minutes for the Roland-Story boys. Isaiah Bates also scored points with a 44th-place time of 20:06.21 and Levi Webb and Xander Webb were right behind him in 45th and 46th place with respective times of 20:07.97 and 20:11.59.

Madrid’s Jason Renze and Clay Pehl, ranked first and second individually in 1A, were the first two runners to cross the finish line in the boys’ race with respective times of 16:12.33 and 16:14.97. They were the only two competitors to finish in under 17 minutes.
