Seven Norse girls tabbed all-HOIC: Barkema, Morton make first team

Reagan Barkema was a first-team all-HOIC selection for the Roland-Story girls' basketball team in 2020-2021. Barkema averaged 16.3 points in HOIC games to help the Norse win the conference title with a perfect 11-0 record.

The Roland-Story girls’ basketball team put seven players on the all-Heart of Iowa Conference girls’ basketball teams after winning the conference title with a perfect 11-0 record. 

Senior Madeline Morton and junior Reagan Barkema made the first team from Roland-Story. They were joined by Nevada’s Sydney Mosinski and Shelbi Hazlitt, West Marshall’s Katy Reyerson and Lauren Solberg, South Hamilton’s Makena Galetich and Prairie City-Monroe's Lilli Baird. 

Morton 8.0 points and 2.5 rebounds in conference play. She shot 77 % from the line, made 21 3-pointers and was a lockdown defender for the Norse. 

Barkema led Roland-Story with an average of 16.3 points shooting 57 % from the field, 40 % from 3-point range and 80 % from the line. Barkema made 27 3-pointers and also averaged 4.0 rebounds. 

Junior Reece Johnson and seniors Dani Grady and Jadyn Nelson were named to the second team. The rest of the all-HOIC second team was made up of Nevada’s Bridget Cahill and Maddie Dunham, West Marshall’s Keaton Pfantz, South Hamilton’s Caleigh Hewitt and Greene County's Brianna Habben. 

Johnson posted 7.1 points, 4.1 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game and shot 40 % from the field. Grady averaged 3.2 points and shot 93 % from the line and Nelson put up 6.1 points and 4.3 rebounds shooting 55 % from the field. 

Seniors Jordyn Ramus and Madison Martindale were the two Norse named honorable mention. 

Ramus contributed 2.3 points and 1.2 assists per game. Martindale shot 51 % from the field and averaged 4.7 points and 4.5 rebounds.
