Baylie Janssen competes at the Nevada Invitational for the Roland-Story girls' cross country team Monday at the Indian Creek Country Club in Nevada. The Norse girls placed third.

The Roland-Story girls' cross country team entered the Nevada Invitational ranked 16th in Class 2A. But the Norse were missing two of their regular top four runners in Reece Johnson and Elizabeth Ihle, who were dealing with minor health issues.

Roland-Story still ended up third out of 11 teams with 118 points. The only two teams to beat the Norse were 3A schools Gilbert (47 points) and No. 7 North Polk (62).

The Roland-Story boys placed ninth out of 12 teams with 209 points. A North Polk team rated third in 3A won the boys' team championship with 31 points and 17th-ranked Gilbert came in second with 58.

Nathan Limas turned in another top-10 individual performance for the Norsemen on the boys' side.

Here is what we learned from Roland-Story's performances at the meet:

Short-handed girls still place high

The Roland-Story girls still had two runners place in the top 20 despite being short-handed.

Sophomore Lauryn Kilstofte, ranked 21st individually in 2A entering the meet, continued to run brilliantly for the Norse. Kilstofte completed the 5-kilometer course in 21 minutes, 16 seconds to place fifth overall.

Kilstofte only trailed North Polk's Liza Schaffer (20:30), Iowa Falls-Alden/AGWSR's Teah Miller (20:52), Baxter's Elie Tuhn (20:58) and North Polk's Aleah McBee (21:01) in the final standings. Schaffer is ranked 23rd and Miller 28th in 3A and Tuhn ninth in 1A.

Coming in behind Kilstofte for the Norse were freshman Claire Truesdell (16th in 22:20), sophomore Makenna Carlson (27th in 23:52), freshman Brooke Thompson (33rd in 24:10) and senior Baylie Janssen (39th in 24:57).

Limas takes care of business

Limas also ran a great race for the Roland-Story boys at Nevada. Limas placed eighth with a 5k time of 18:06.

Nathan Limas finished eighth for the Roland-Story boys at the Nevada Invitational Sept. 27 at the Indian Creek Country Club in Nevada.

North Polk's twin tandem of Zach and Max Sporaa were first and second in the boys' race with respective times of 16:29 and 16:54.

The Norsemen are still trying to build depth on the boys' side. Lucas Wuebker came in 45th in 21:29, Levi Webb 48th in 21:46, Colten Lucchesi 53rd in 22:32 and Lucas Hart 55th in 22:51.
