Norsemen sports round-up: Boys track wins at Jewell, girls golf wins at home
The Roland-Story boys won the Hawk Relays in Jewell and the Norse girls took second at the Norsemen Relays in Story City during high school track competition April 21.
The Roland-Story boys scored 142 points to easily beat Des Moines Christian's score of 106 for first place at the Hawk Relays. The Norse girls scored 64 points to place fifth out of 10 teams at home, trailing Bondurant-Farrar (138), North Polk (108.5), Gilbert (94.5) and West Marshall 90.
Kale Lande won the open 400 in 52.23 seconds and Sam Knoll took first in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet even for the Roland-Story boys at the Hawk Relays. The Norsemen also placed first in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and sprint medley relays.
Nate Johnson took second in the 100 with a time of 11.43, Will Bunn was runner-up in the 200 at 23.87 and Nathan Limas won silver in the 3,200 with 10:38.96 showing. Roland-Story also won bronze in the 4x800 with a time of 8
Hesston Johnson placed third in the 400 with a 54.09 showing, Limas won bronze in the 1,600 after finishing in 5:00.55 and Quin Ante placed third in the 400 hurdles after completing the race in 1:01.42 and the Roland-Story distance medley team won bronze in 4:04.55.
Claire Truesdell gave the Norse girls a victory in the 1,500 at the Norsemen relays with a winning time of 5:31.37. Madison Geise threw 108-10 in the discus to trail only the 123-10 toss by Bondurant-Farrar's Katelyn Lappe.
Macy Friest finished third behind Lappe (39-3) and the Bluejays' Carolyn Miller (36-0.5) in the shot put with a toss of 35-9. Adalyn Sporleder won bronze in the long jump with a distance of 15-9.5 and Laurel Osborn was fourth with a 15-6 effort.
Sporleder, Kennedy Petersen, Kamryn Lande and Lauren Kilstofte finished second in the sprint medley with a 1:53.15 showing. Sporleder and Reagan Faber Kilstofte and Lande placed third in the 4x200 with a 1:49.84 effort.
Girls golf team wins home quadrangular
The Roland-Story girls golf team won its home triangular with West Marshall, South Hamilton and North Polk April 21 at the Riverbend Golf Course in Story City.
The Norse girls shot a 368 over 18 holes to beat West Marshall by 8 strokes for the win. South Hamilton shot a 434 and North Polk a 449.
Makenna Carlson easily won medalist for Roland-Story with an 81. Ellie Erickson claimed medalist runner-up with an 89.
Mersadie Franklin shot a 95 and Briel Wakefield a 103 to complete the Norse scoring and Courtney Scheier tallied a 105 and Abby Cook a 108.
The Roland-Story girls took second out of 10 teams at the West Marshall Invitational April 19 at the Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center.
The Norse shot a 378 over 18 holes as a team to trail only Grundy Center's 369 in the team standings. Carlson tied for medalist with an 87, Erickson placed fourth with an 89, Franklin and Wakefield both carded a 101, Cook finished with a 103 and Abby Heubner a 126.
