R-S boys suffer two losses in overtime

STORY CITY — For the second game in a row, the Roland-Story boys’ basketball team caught a bad break in overtime when the Norsemen took on South Hardin Jan. 17 in Story City.

Roland-Story suffered a 58-48 loss at the hands of South Hardin just two days after a 57-53 overtime loss at Prairie City-Monroe.

The Norsemen trailed by three going into the fourth quarter. They held South Hardin to six points in the quarter to pull even at 43-43.

The tough defense didn’t hold up in overtime. South Hardin put up 15 points in the extra session to pull away.

Roland-Story fell to 5-9 with the loss. The Norsemen held a 31-22 rebounding advantage and totaled eight steals, but they only shot 29 percent from the field.

Ben Chelsvig scored 13 points on a perfect 6 of 6 shooting night from the field and he also had six rebounds for Roland-Story. Dylan Matheason added 11 points and five rebounds, Carter Greenfield 10 points and three assists, Dylan Ihle seven points and Colby Gray four points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Norsemen.

South Hardin improved to 9-5. Cade Spieker had 17 points and five blocks, Dante Dolash 14 points and Kaleb Roling 10 points for the Tigers.

MONROE - Roland-Story gave Prairie City-Monroe a serious run for its money before faltering in overtime, 57-53, Jan. 15 at Monroe.

The Norsemen came back from a five-point deficit through three quarters to tie the game at 47-47 by the end of regulation. Sam Skaar hit a clutch 3-pointer for Roland-Story to send the game into overtime.

But in the extra session, the Roland-Story offense slowed down just enough to allow PCM to pull ahead for the victory.

Roland-Story fell to 5-8 overall and 3-6 in the Heart of Iowa Conference. The Norsemen were excellent shooting from the outside, making 13 of 34 3-pointers, but they were hurt by a poor 2 of 8 showing from the foul line.

Dylan Ihle drained five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points for the Norsemen. Carter Greenfield added 14 points and four assists and Dylan Matheason 12 points and seven rebounds.

PCM improved to 8-5 overall and 7-2 in the conference. The Mustangs were 12 of 20 from the line and they held a slight 38-34 rebounding advantage.

Andrew Van Ryswyk went for 22 points and 12 rebounds and Isaac Telfer chipped in 12 points and seven boards for PCM.
