Norse girls take fifth, boys sixt at Leon Fox Invite

PERRY - The Roland-Story girls produced two top-25 runners and the Norse boys had three runners place in the top 25 at the Leon Fox Invitational cross country meet Oct. 8.

Kylie Tjernagel turned in yet another top-10 individual five-kilometer time and Kaitlyn Kilstofte also finished in the top 25 to help the Roland-Story girls place fifth out of nine scored teams with 126 points. Ballard, the No. 1 team in Class 3A, easily won the girls’ team title with 20 points.

Tjernagel crossed the finish line in 20 minutes, 43 seconds to place sixth overall. Ballard’s Shewaye Johnson, the No. 10 runner in 3A, won in 19:52 and the Bombers’ Paityn Noe, ranked 15th, came in second at 20:06.

Kilstofte completed the course with a solid time of 22:37. Baylie Janssen took 34th in 23:51, Bekah Strobl 40th in 24:20 and Caden Thoreson 51st in 25:16 to round out the scoring for the Norsemen girls.

Natalie Omundson and Jordyn Ramus also ran varsity, placing 80th and 81st with respective times of 27:25 and 27:30.

In the boys’ competition Roland-Story scored 123 points to finish sixth out of 10 teams. Bondurant-Farrar won with 43 points and Newton was second with 63.

Dylan Ihle ran a 5-kilometer time of 18:42 to take 16th as the first runner to finish for the Roland-Story boys. Nathan Limas continued his strong second half of the season by taking 21st in 18:59 and Seth Halleland came in 23rd at 19:01.

Zane Haglund finished 35th in 19:23 and Jay Sanderson 37th in 19:29 as the final runners to earn points for the Norse boys. Levi Webb took 49th in 20:08 and Jarod Hart 67th in 21:06.

Newton’s Jackson Mace-Maynard won the boys’ race in 17:52 and Winterset’s Wynn Yeager was close behind in second with a 17:54 showing.
