Stole advances to state for R-S in boys’ golf

CARROLL — The Roland-Story boys’ golf team advanced one golfer to state and placed fourth as a team at the Class 2A boys’ district golf meet at the Carroll Country Club May 17.

Nick Stole will be competing at state for the Norsemen. He is one of 10 individuals to qualify for state who are not a member of a qualifying team.

Stole shot an 82 over 18 holes at Carroll to finish in a three-way tie with Van Meter’s Dylan Sherlock and West Central Valley’s Grant Caltrider for the final individual qualifying spot in 2A.

As a team, Roland-Story finished fourth with a 360 to just miss making state. Kuemper Catholic won with a 312, Des Moines Christian was second with a 318 and Panorama third with a 353.

Roland-Story’s score was its best 18-hole effort of the season.

Ryan Streit and Sam Skaar each shot a 92 and Braydon Flattebo a 94 as the other golfers to produce a counted score for the Norsemen. Steven Berends carded a 96 and Joe Hovick a 100 to complete the Roland-Story scoring.

The 2A boys’ state golf meet takes place this coming Thursday and Friday at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown.
